Martin Luther King Jr.

Martin Luther King

Per wiki to summarize the man as follows

Martin Luther King Jr. (January 15, 1929 – April 4, 1968) was an American Christian minister and activist who became the most visible spokesperson and leader in the Civil Rights Movement from 1955 until his assassination in 1968.

MLK Jr was born Michael, his father not only changed his name but Jr’s to Martin Luther after the Reformist of the same name. Martin Luther was one of the most notable theologians in Christian history, and is responsible for initiating the Protestant Reformation. MLK Jr. Married Coretta Scott King and they had 4 children together.

I often wonder what MLK JR would think of our society today and of what has become of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. Those two men are not the Men of God they claim to be, they are chaos makers. This is not about those two men this is about an honorable man who set the civil rights movement on fire, without being disrespectful or through violence. Martin Luther King Jr. was one of the most influential and important figures in the history of the Civil Rights movement and earned a prominent place in U.S history. He believed that all people should be created equal regardless of the color of their skin.

I realize he was not a perfect man, who is perfect? No human on this earth. We all have our flaws, what this courageous man did was to set in motion a movement that through Love, peace, non-violence and civil disobedience, one can change what needed to be changed (Segregation & Jim Crow laws). Everyone is equal no matter what’s on the outside, or what your socio economic stature, we are all HUMAN first. I may see someone’s skin is a different Hue than mine, and that makes no difference to me, I am judging a person by the content of their character, not the color of one’s skin.

In the Civil rights movement you had Rosa Parks the “Mother of the modern day Civil Rights Movement”, by not giving up her seat to a white male on the bus on Dec 1st of 1955, which sparked a Movement for civil rights, and then you have MLK Jr who became the Leader of that movement. Two dignified people making a point on Humanity in a very segregated time in not only the state but in the country.

MLK Jr. was shot on the evening of April 4, 1968, while standing on the balcony of room 306 at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, and died about an hour later in St. Joseph’s Hospital.

MLK Jr has left a legacy on this world, I think that is one thing we can all agree on. He was inspired by his Christian beliefs and the nonviolent activism of Mahatma Gandhi. So on this day that we Mourn his death, let us Celebrate the Life and achievements of Martin Luther King Jr and reflect on the impact his courage has made on not only this country, but the world.

What impact are you going to leave on this world?
